Starbucks coffee network is considering including blockchain and cryptocurrency in its long-term strategy for introducing payment technologies, – said Howard Schultz, Starbucks executive chairman.
According to him, the network will thus expand digital relationships with its customers.
At the same time, Schulz stressed that BTC will not be part of the strategy, because it is not considered real means of payment. The coffee shop chain is not planning to create its own cryptocurrency and invest money in blockchain either.
At the same time, Starbucks uses its position on the market to promote innovative technologies to the masses.
Schultz explained that it’s possible to create a development platform for distributed ledger technology, based on coffee shops, as well as benefit from the Starbucks app for mobile payments. The service lets people buy coffee shop products and get rewards for it.
